The Korumburra Jeetho Mine where Jack Rudd disappeared in 1916.
Jackie Rudd was five and a half years old when he disappeared down the Jeetho Mine shaft in 1916. He was the son of J. Rudd. The white fence marks the spot today behind the Coal Creek Motel in Korumburra.
Jack Rudd’s uncle Arthur was working in the vicinity at the time getting a load of burnt stone, but he did not notice that some children who were playing thereabouts had gone to the shaft, which is about 240 feet deep and full of water to within about 30 feet from the top. A boy named Goss said little Rudd was throwing stones into the shaft when some loose earth gave way on the edge on which the unfortunate child was standing. Young Goss gave the alarm, and the lad’s uncle, with the aid of his driving reins, descended the shaft to the water’s edge but could see no trace of the lad. Divers were sent down the mine shaft to try and locate the lost lad, to no avail.
These stories are taken from historian Bob Newtonʼs books.

The memorial which, to this day is situated on the Rudd property.
